Three maids were charged by the Sharjah Criminal Court with stealing jewellery worth over Dh300,000 and possessing alcoholic beverages.
The presiding judge, Mahmoud Abker, confronted two Filipina and an Indian maid with the prosecution records that accused them of stealing gold and jewellery from their sponsor's house.
Besides, alcoholic drinks were also found from their cupboards.
An Emirati woman lodged a complaint that jewellery worth more than Dh300,000 had been stolen from her room safe. A security team - formed to probe the case - swung into action and rushed to the UAE national's house to inspect the crime site.
The police suspected the three maids and arrested them. While searching their rooms for evidence, they found bottles of alcohol in their cupboards.
During interrogation by the police and public prosecution, the trio on Tuesday confessed to having committed the crime. They had denied the accusations and pleaded not guilty during Monday's court hearing.
The court decided to adjourn the case till April 16.
