The Dubai Police have rescued an eight-month-old from his parents, after it emerged that the father tortured the infant over disputes with his wife. The police have taken protective custody of the infant.
Brigadier Dr Mohammed Al Murr, director of the police's general department of human rights, said the father had tortured the baby and the mother for days. However, when the police spotted signs of assault on the baby and questioned the parents, they did not reveal the truth. They claimed the baby had fallen from the stairs.
Brigadier Dr Al Murr said officers from his department rushed the baby to the hospital, where a check-up confirmed that the child was assaulted and tortured.
During questioning, the mother broke down and confessed that her husband tortured the baby over some family disputes.
When the police confronted the father with his wife's testimony, he said his wife "often created problems" for him. The sound of the child crying irritated him, and he assaulted the infant, he confessed. He said he assaulted his wife as she tried to defend her baby.
The officer said legal action was taken against the parents and they have been referred to the Dubai Public Prosecution.
Talking about the condition of the baby, Brigadier Dr Al Murr said the child is recuperating under the direct supervision of his department. "He is in a good health condition. The department has coordinated with the Dubai Foundation for Women and Children to take the child in as his parents are not fit to take care of him."
