A resident allegedly raped a woman he took out on a date to the desert, a Dubai court has heard. The Court of First Instance heard the 29-year-old Iranian man forced himself on the Filipina in the early hours of December 10, 2017.
He denied the rape charge, claiming the sex was consensual. A case was registered at the Lahbab police station.
Prosecutors have sought the maximum penalty for the defendant.
The 33-year-old complainant, a saleswoman, said that at 9.30pm on December 10, she received a WhatsApp message from the defendant. "I had met him about one year earlier through a friend. I hardly knew him and he had not contacted me ever since. He invited me to a barbecue party at the desert with his friends. I declined his invitation."
However, she went with him for coffee. "I met him at 11pm at a Metro station in Al Muraqqabat. He then took me to a desert location, where three men and a woman joined us. We drank alcohol and smoked shisha," she told the prosecutor.
At 3am, the others began to leave. "I asked him to take me back home. But he insisted I stay with him for a while."
The complainant said he then jumped on her as she sat in the passenger seat. "He took off my clothes by force and raped me. He dropped me later at my place."
She said that the assault also left her with lacerations in the back.
The forensic report confirmed there was a sexual relation on the incident day. The woman's medical examination revealed she had bruises all over her body.
The defendant told the investigators the woman went with him willingly to the desert and they had consensual sex after drinking alcohol.
The trial will continue on September 3.
