Man cleared of stealing cooking oil worth Dh205,152 in Dubai

A former sales manager at a trading firm has been acquitted of the charge of embezzling more than Dh 205,000 worth of goods.
The 42-year-old Indian was accused of stealing cooking oil worth Dh205,152 over a period between 2014 and 2015.
The Court of First Instance cleared him of the charge of embezzlement to which he earlier pleaded not guilty.
"The accused had been working for the trading company since 2013 as export sales manager," said a legal consultant working with the plaintiff.
"In January 2016, as we were going through the accounts and bills of goods in order to give copies of those bills to our customers to check whether they matched with the merchandise delivered to them, one of the businesses objected that they had not received the goods listed in three bills issued in March 2015," the consultant said in his statement during the public prosecution investigation.
According to the consultant, the accused also embezzled Dh64,000 which was due to be paid to another customer. "The amount was the price of goods and was deposited at the other corporation's bank account. However, the defendant got in contact with the warehouse and falsely told them that the corporation wanted the goods to be sent to a third party," the consultant said.
"Accordingly, the oils haul was delivered to a third party at Sharjah port. That other party turned out later to be connected to the defendant. The corporation in question was unaware of it."     
The court ruling remains subject to be appealed by the public prosecution.
