An African has been jailed for three months for forging a marriage certificate so he could bring his lover to the UAE and stay with her. The Sharjah criminal court also ordered his deportation at the end of the prison term.
According to the prosecution records, the convict forged information in a marriage contract and submitted it to the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Sharjah.
After he was caught, he told the police that he forged the document so he could bring his lover to the UAE. However, in court, he denied the charges, claiming he was married to the woman. He said he obtained the certificate from his home country and that he did not know it was forged.
In light of his argument, the court had given him the opportunity to submit a valid contract, but he failed to do so.
