A worker was sentenced to 10 years in jail and a Dh50,000 fine for possessing psychotropic drugs.
The Korean national was arrested after criminal investigation teams found he was working as a doctor without a license in Sharjah, as per an Emarat Al Youm report.
They also found cartons filled with bottles and vials of medications laced with opiates in his home.
The man had turned his bedroom into a doctor's office.
In his defence statement, the man said: "I had no idea that this substance is illegal in the UAE. We used it to treat illnesses in my home country. I was a doctor there."
The man confessed to issuing the drugs as medication.
He will be deported after serving the jail term.
