Registration for the Papal mass during Pope Francis' visit to the UAE on February 5 is now online, the Apostolic Vicariate of Southern Arabia (AVOSA) announced on Thursday.
Pope Francis is expected to land at the Abu Dhabi Presidential Airport late evening on February 3 (Sunday). He will attend the International Interfaith Meeting on Human Fraternity on February 4 (Monday). The holy mass will be on February 5 (Tuesday) at 10.30am at Zayed Sports City, in Abu Dhabi.
AVOSA said those who are from the UAE, Oman or Yemen can now register on the official website for the Papal visit. The deadline for registration is January 21.
Parishioners of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dubai can also contact their local parish on 04-3370087 and 04-3370140 for further details on registration.
"As this is a visit to the AVOSA, tickets are reserved primarily for the local faithful. However, we understand that this is a rare opportunity for people living nearby to see the pope. So, there will be seats reserved for visitors from the Northern Vicariate (AVONA - Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain) as well," AVOSA said.
"Details on distribution policies are being worked out. We will have more information regarding this on our website very soon.
"Members of all other parishes are asked to please wait until an official announcement is released by their parish. They could also check their parish website for updates," AVOSA added.
Non-GCC residents may apply for a very limited number of tickets via the online system.
Tickets for non-GCC residents seated inside Zayed Sports City stadium and standing outside the Stadium will be issued on a first come, first served basis.
Children over the age of 2 years must have a ticket for security reasons. Bar-coded tickets must be collected at St Joseph's Cathedral Abu Dhabi or St Mary's Church Dubai from January 28 to February 4.
AVOSA said no one will be allowed to enter the Zayed Sports City Stadium without a ticket.
