Authorities in Ras Al Khaimah will open 18 new mosques ahead of the holy month of Ramadan, it was announced on Tuesday. Dr Mohammed Mattar Al Kaabi, Chairman of the General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments, made the announcement as he inaugurated the Sheikh Sultan bin Saqr Al Qasimi mosque in Ras Al Khaimah.

"The mosque, built at Al Nakheel area on an area of 5,360 square metres, can accommodate up to 3,200 worshippers, including 500 women. The mosque has seven domes. The central dome is 30.31 metres high and 85.23 metres wide."



Dr Kaabi said all the mosques in the emirate will get a facelift and be ready before the start of the holy month. "All the mosques will be equipped with new carpets as per the strategy of the General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments," he said.
