Indian minister discusses workers' welfare with Sheikh Nahyan

V Muraleedharan, Indian Minister of State for External Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs, on Tuesday met Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, the UAE Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, in Abu Dhabi.

During the meeting, the Indian minister, who is on a three-day official visit to the UAE, discussed various issues, including the welfare of blue-collar workers.

“Had an excellent meeting with HE Sheikh Nahayan. Discussed measures to further deepen India-UAE people-people relations, especially the welfare of our workers,” Muraleedharan tweeted after the meeting. “Thanked him for his leadership and his warm sentiments towards India.”

Muraleedharan was received by the Indian Ambassador to the UAE, Pavan Kapoor, on Monday night.

“Continuing exchanges at the leadership level between our two countries are a reflection of our comprehensive strategic partnership,” Kapoor said after the ministerial meeting.

Muraleedharan will be meeting community leaders in Abu Dhabi and Dubai to understand the issues faced by the Indian expatriate community. He will be visiting the emirate of Ajman as well.

Muraleedharan had last visited the UAE in October 2019 to participate in a ministerial-level meeting of the Abu Dhabi Dialogue (ADD) and a community function in Sharjah.

“India and the UAE have maintained close coordination in the spirit of their comprehensive strategic partnership during the novel coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic,” the ministry added.
