Dubai Police have announced that motorists can avail of discounts on traffic fines during the Year of Tolerance. Drivers can get up to a 100% reduction on the total accumulated existing traffic fines.
The initiative was launched under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
In a press conference held at the Dubai Police General HQ, Major General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, the Commander-in-chief of Dubai Police, said the initiative"

According to Major General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police: "Starting from today, motorists don't have to pay their traffic fines - at specified rates - as long as they follow traffic rules throughout the year."

Major General Mohammed Saif Al Zafeen, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Operations, said the initiative applies to all vehicles registered in Dubai, on condition that the driver abides by traffic laws and regulations and does not commit any violations for a full calendar year starting from February 2019.
The initiative is part of the overall drive towards increasing customer satisfaction and happiness levels in the UAE and in line with the Year of Tolerance initiative.
The discount rates as follows:
1- Follow the rules for 3 months, get 25% discount
2- Follow the rules for 6 months, get 50% discount
3- Follow the rules for 9 months, get 75% discount
4- Follow the rules for a year, get 100% discount
For example, if the value of accumulated traffic violations is Dh10,000, a reduction of 25% will be obtained and the driver pays Dh7,500. After six months, the motorist can pay Dh5,000 only, and if the driver did not commit any traffic violations for a year then the entire traffic violation amount will be waived.
Al Zafeen explained the initiative only applies to privately owned vehicles and does not apply to vehicles registered with businesses, rental offices or companies, including public or private transport companies. He added that individuals who reside outside the state for more than three consecutive months from the date of the traffic violation cannot benefit from the initiative.

"The driver's compliance with traffic laws and regulations will be computed on 6 February 2019 with a (25%) reduction for every three months. If a driver commits an offence before the end of the period, he/she cannot benefit from the initiative, and the grace period is recounted from the date of the new violation," Al Zafeen added.
The press conference was also attended by Brigadier Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Director of Dubai Traffic Police; Colonel Faisal Essa AlQasim, Director of Security Media, and a number of senior officers and media personnel.
The discount does not include RTA and Dubai Municipality violations.
The first-of-its-kind initiative is primarily concerned with protecting residents from all walks of life and helping them follow the rules for their own safety, said Al Marri.
