On Sunday, Uber - in partnership with Dubai Taxi Corporation - was announced as the exclusive ride-hailing partner for DTC's fleet of electric vehicles in the UAE.
The launch of UberONE will initially see 50 brand new premium Tesla cars added to the Uber app, giving riders across Dubai the chance to request the fully-electric, smart and sustainable transport option at the touch of a button. That is great news for UAE residents who support the drive for sustainability that the government is encouraging.
Starting October 10, when UAE residents book an UberONE, a Tesla electric vehicle will come to pick them up and drive them to their selected location. For those not in the know, the Tesla is an electric vehicle that also doubles as a luxury vehicle. Imagine a Porsche running on batteries - that is what a Tesla is.
Since it's a luxury vehicle, some of us are led to believe that it's going to be costly to book one. But in fact, it's not.
According to Uber's blog, the pricing of UberONE will be in line with UberBLACK cars. So, what does that mean? We open up the Uber app to find out how much does is the fare
Using Uber's app, we have discovered that the base fare for UberBLACK only costs Dh10. Dh0.80 is added every minute while Dh1.90 is added for every kilometre. There is a minimum fare of Dh20. Up to 4 persons can hop onto an UberBLACK.
With that in mind, it seems likely that in order to book a Tesla in Dubai, it will only cost you a low - very low - price of Dh10. Imagine that! Dh10 to hop inside one of the most futuristic (and good-looking) cars in the market right now.
What do you think? Will you be hopping into a Tesla on your way to work?
