The next time you drive on Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road, look out for some smileys! As you enter the northern area of the country via the road, you will be greeted by three large smiling emojis. To drive home the point of road safety, a message in three languages - Arabic, English and Urdu - is displayed, too: 'Drive safely'. The Ministry of Infrastructure and Development had commissioned the project to raise awareness about road safety in a happy manner. More smileys will soon appear on other federal roads as well. The initiative aims to spread happiness among road users, and encourage them to call on 80088889 in case they wish to bring emergency maintenance requests to the ministry's notice. Ahmed Al Hammadi, director of the roads department at the ministry, said the ministry's initiatives are aimed at making the UAE society happy. "Federal roads projects which the ministry supervises in different parts of the country aim to basically make the people happy and provide them a decent life. "Emiratis and residents of the country are at the centre of the ministry's policies. We work to bring happiness and road safety to them," he added.
