Dubai - Despite warnings and awareness campaigns motorists continue to commit violations.

Speeding incidents topped traffic violations in Dubai during the first half of this year, according to Dubai Police.
The speeding violations touched 260,169 in the first six months, raising an alarm call to motorists about the dangers of speeding, which is the major cause of fatalities in road accidents.
Brigadier Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, director-general of traffic department at Dubai Police, pointed out that despite warnings and awareness campaigns motorists continue to committing speeding violations.
In the past few years, the Dubai Police have launched campaigns like 'Speeding kills' to explain to drivers the dangers of speeding and how it causes road deaths.
Al Mazrouei added that the campaigns were not only aimed at raising awareness among motorists but also for patrols to monitor speeding drives and ensure safety of road users.
He said that lack of lane discipline came in second position among traffic violations involving light vehicles which reached 189,922, and parking offences came in the third place with 79,752 while obstructing traffic was ranked fourth with 64,487 tickets, followed by lack of attention and using mobile phones behind wheels touched 21,362.
He added that 19, 849 tickets were issued to drivers who stopped vehicles on the sidewalks, while 17,528 tickets issued to drivers for not fastening seat belts while driving. As many as 11,881 tickets were issued to drivers who jumped the red signal, 8,635 tickets for overtaking road shoulder, and 7,004 tickets were issued against drivers who stopped vehicles in the middle of the road without reason.
