Pia Wurtzbach crowned Binibining Pilipinas-Universe

Wurzbach was also named Miss Creamsilk at the event.

Filipina-German model and culinary degree holder Pia Wurtzbach won the Miss Universe Philippines crown at the recently concluded Binibining Pilipinas 2015.

“Last night my biggest dream came true. It was a long journey finally getting a crown in Binibining Pilipinas but all worth it.”

Wurtzbach was referring to her challenging three-year journey at the pageant where she finished first runner-up in 2013 and among the top 15 semifinalists last year. After last year’s heartbreaking loss, Pia considered quitting pageants altogether but decided to join the contest for the third time.

She was quoted in interviews as saying she was inspired by the journey of Miss Universe Philippines 2014 Mary Jean Lastimosa who also won her crown on her third try.

Wurzbach was also named Miss Creamsilk at the event. Janicel Lubina, whose humble beginnings included working as a housemaid in her home province of Palawan, won Binibining Pilipinas-International.

Janicel also won the Best in Swimsuit and Best in Long Gown special awards. Many pageant experts predicted a two-cornered fight between Pia and Janicel for the top crown. She was a bigger winner on the night, taking home the Best in Swimsuit and Best in Long Gown awards.

Rounding out the winner’s list are Binibining Pilipinas-Intercontinental Christi McGarry, Binibining Pilipinas-Supranational Rogelie Catacutan and Bb. Pilipinas-Tourism Ann Lorraine Colis. Runners-up were Kimverlyn Suiza and Hannah Sison.
