The UAE's rejection of hatred is now enshrined in law. Giving vent to this hate of hatred and discrimination through a far-sighted legislation is important as winds of violence blow across the region. It's also an appeal for tolerance despite our differences. More importantly, it reminds us of our responsibilities towards each other.
Terrorist groups like Daesh are fanning hate, an insane emotion almost hard to define, while playing on religious and sectarian sentiments. Hence it is important to break their back and resist such attempts by them to spread this ideology. The country will use the full force of the law against the doctrine of terror.
The law ensures people will not be victimised on the basis of religion, doctrine, colour or ethnicity. It has roots in the history and traditions of the country, which has welcomed people from all over the world for centuries.
This is home to over 200 nationalities, who love its dynamic spirit and entrepreneurship, which allows them to flourish and realise their potential. It does not matter which faith you profess, caste, country or creed you belong to, the message is clear - the laws of the land will protect you.
This law will go a long way in dispersing the clouds of violence, suspicion and fear. ''It guarantees freedom of individuals against religious intolerance & hate crimes and underpins UAE's policy of inclusiveness,'' tweeted His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
An inclusive society like the UAE is also progressive in nature. Let's strive to keep it that way.
