A man has been arrested for allegedly sending bombs to critics of US President Donald Trump. Law enforcement officials said 14 Democrats were the alleged targets of Cesar Sayof who, by all accounts, appeared to be suffering from mental issues. The 56-year-oldsuspect, who worked as a bouncer, stripper, delivery man and DJ, has been estranged from his Italian mother for three years. His father, a Filipino, deserted the family when the suspect was a child. Cesar was homeless, he lived on the road, in a van. And he was clearly the son of immigrants. Some liberal news outlets reported his former boss calling him a bigot. Cesar had run-ins with the law not once, but nine times, and if convicted for his latest crime, could face 48 years in prison.
The truth about his bid to blow up Democrats is bound to emerge after investigations are completed but the president, in what has become a habit, blamed the media first when he should have called for calm in the country that's soon going to mid-term polls. Political and social tensions are high and those opposed to the president say his anti-immigrant (and unconventional) rhetoric is the reason for the rifts. Those backing the president counter that he's discarding political double-speak to speak the unpalatable truth to those who care to listen.
What America needs are people who think twice before they shoot their mouth off to the media. Investigation agencies should be allowed to do their job. The FBI, that was in the eye of the storm during the early phase of the Trump presidency, moved swiftly to arrest the suspect. Their work has largely gone unnoticed and credit is due to them. This proves the system works, at least some parts of it. Americans must come together again like their premier investigating agency that has redeemed itself by cracking this dangerous plot.
