A wicketkeeper-batsman known for his explosive stroke-play, Jos Buttler can be serene while dealing with tough questions from reporters.
He needed that kind of composure when he walked into bat at 93 for four against Pakistan in Sharjah. Yes, the target was only 209, but it was anybody's game on a pitch that wasn't really conducive to stroke-play.
Buttler was heroic in his 117-run unbroken partnership with the talented James Taylor as England reached home rather comfortably in the end. With that win, they now have chance to win their second successive ODI series against Pakistan in the UAE.
"It's hugely important to play well here tomorrow as we are really desperate to win the series," Buttler said in the pre-match Press conference on Thursday.
"We are a young group of players and that dressing room is absolutely amazing now. There is a lot of excitement among the group and the way we played in the last two games gives us a lot of confidence going into the final game of the series.
"The situation is similar to 2012 when we lost the Test series, but won the ODI series very impressively. I actually made my debut on this ground then. But this is a relatively inexperienced group, so a win tomorrow will do a world of good to our confidence."
The 25-year-old player said his unbeaten knock of 49 in the third ODI in Sharjah was a great learning experience for him.
"It's a huge relief to be able to score and contribute in an England win. It was a very difficult situation when I walked in. I think I have learned a lot from it. Hopefully I will use that experience to improve myself as a player."
Buttler then thanked captain Eoin Morgan for his support. "It's really great when you have a captain who supports you. The whole group is very supportive and it means a lot.
"This group helps you keep things simple which is logical because there can be tough times and sometimes we think too much about the game. That makes things complicated. So to get that kind of support from the captain and the group is very nice."
The Taunton-born player revealed the secret to his team's success in the ODI series so far. "We always work hard in every match - doesn't matter if we lose or win. We always give everything."
