Australian bowlers came up with an outstanding performance on the final morning to beat India by 209 runs in the World Test Championship final at the Oval.
India, resuming at the overnight score of 164 for three, was bowled out for 234.
Nathan Lyon finished with second innings figures of 4/41 as India lost seven wickets this morning for just 70 runs.
Chasing a world record 444 runs for victory, a defiant fourth wicket partnership between Virat Kohli (49) and Ajinkya Rahane (46) kept India's thin hopes alive at stumps on Day Four.
But Scott Boland (3/46) delivered a double blow this morning when he dismissed Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja (0) in the space of three balls, both batsmen falling in the outside the off stump corridor.
Mitchell Starc (2/77) then took Australia a step closer to victory by getting Rahane caught behind.
Soon after Rahane's dismissal, spinner Lyon trapped Shardul Thakur plumb in front for an lbw decision.
Starc then bounced out Umesh Yadav (1) before Lyon completed the formalities by removing S Bharat (23) and Mohammed Siraj (1) as Mohammed Shami remained not out on 13.
Australia scored 469 in the first innings before declaring at 270 for eight in the second innings.
India, who scored 296 all out in the first innings, needed to make a world record 444 to win the contest.
But eventually, India was all out for 234.
While Australia won its first WTC title, this was India's second straight defeat in the final, having lost to New Zealand in 2021.
