David Bowie dies after battle with cancer

The 69-year-old was a singer-songwriter and producer whose worked in the genres of art rock, soul, dance pop and electronica during his eclectic career.

A post on David Bowie's website announced the peaceful death of the legendary musician. He turned 69 on January 8 and passed away after a courageous 18-month battle with cancer.

David Bowie marked his 69th birthday with the release of a new album, "Blackstar", with critics giving the thumbs up to the latest work in a long and innovative career.
The singer, songwriter, actor and artist returns to the music scene after 2013's chart-topping "The Next Day", itself released after a 10-year gap.
