Left-handed opening batsman Gautam Gambhir will replace the injured opener Lokesh Rahul in the second Test match against New Zealand at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
Gambhir's impressive show in the recent Duleep Trophy, where he scored four back-to-back half-centuries including two 90 plus scores, helped him get back to the Test team after a gap of two years.
Gambhir's last Test match was against England in August 2014.

The 34-year-old player found it tough to get back to the team after Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan emerged as a reliable opening pair.
However, Rahul replaced Dhawan, who was struggling with form in recent times, in the first Test against New Zealand in Kanpur. 
Now it remains to be seen if Gambhir gets to play or the team management decides to play Dhawan with Vijay at the Eden Gardens.   
Led by skipper Virat Kohli, the Indian Test team arrived in Kolkata along with the New Zealand team ahead of second cricket Test starting on Friday.
Rahul had sustained the injury while batting in the second innings of the Kanpur Test, which India won by 197 runs on Monday to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
The Black Caps, meanwhile, arrived with Jeetan Patel in place of injured off-spinner Mark Craig.
