Dubai - UAE’s ace women archer Maitha Al Suwaidi joined the elite men in the gold list when she won the national women’s recurve category.

The archery finals saw keen rivalry between old rivals both in the open and in the section for the differently abled in the multi discipline Dh8 million prize fund third Nad Al Sheba (NAS) Ramadan Sports Tournament at the NAS complex in Meydan, on Tuesday night and the early hours of Wednesday.
UAE’s ace women archer Maitha Al Suwaidi joined the elite men in the gold list when she won the national women’s recurve category. She had near perfect rounds to push Maha Taha and Fatima Al Zaabi into the silver and bronze positions. In the recurve for national men, Mohammed Rashid Al Baloushi was a clear winner as Mohammed Sultan Al Baloushi and Humaid Al Musharrekh finished in silver and bronze spots.
Sanjay Prabhu got a walkover from his in-form opponent Wissam Torbay in the open compound event gold medal round. Mike Andrews landed gold in the open recurve event pushing Yemen’s Saeed Al Tamimi into the silver spot.
The fight for the bronze medals were worked off among the losing semifinalists last week. Jos Versteegen of the Netherlands won third place in the compound category while Pedro Santos from Portugal finished third in the recurve.
In the differently abled category, Ibrahim Al Hammadi won gold in the recurve open. Mohammed Najeeb won silver and Shabbir Ahmed the bronze in this section.Innovate and in-form Dubai 2021 will clash in the final of the volleyball championships which resumed after a week following the qualifying rounds at the same main indoor stadium venue.
Dubai 2021 stopped the giant killing run of Fohood Zabeel 25-23, 25-22, 25-21 and Innovate had to withstand the great wall of Surprise before winning their semifinal 24-26, 25-19, 25-18, 25-17.
Emilio Misas and Pedro Rios booked their gold medal round berth beating Guillermo Villafane and Jordi Hernandez 6-2, 6-1 in the open men’s padel tennis event. They meet the unbeaten Alexander Farquharson and Javier Lopez Garcia who qualified last week, for the top spot. German Zunica and Hassan Sharif will meet Guillermo Villafane and Jordi Hernandez in the bronze playoff.
