Preparations in full swing for GCC Games

Dubai - The attendees discussed the best means of winning as many medals and titles as possible in the Games.

Preparations are in full swing for the UAE's participation in the second GCC Games in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, from October 10-26.
The National Olympic Committee's (NOC) technical panel discussed on the preparations following the advancement of the Games' dates to avoid clash with other events.
A statement to this effect was made during the meeting of the technical body members at the NOC headquarters, chaired by Abdul Mohsen Al Dosari, in the presence of other members including advisor Ahmed Al Kamali; Brigadier-General Abdul Malik Jani; Nasir Al Tamimi; Saeed Al Khatri; and Omar Abdul Rahman; NOC executive director.
The attendees discussed the best means of winning as many medals and titles as possible in the Games.
They added that such participation would boost the confidence and raise the technical and physical competency of all athletes in order to prepare well for future events.
The participation of people with special needs in the second GCC Games will be limited to blind goalball, after the weightlifting federations in four GCC countries sent communication regarding their inability to send lifters.
Soccer, volleyball, handball, basketball, swimming and athletics are the main events of the Games with optional provision for equestrian, show jumping, endurance race, weight lifting, judo, table tennis, bowling, karate, and camel racing.
The NOC technical committee congratulated advisor Ahmed Al Kamali, president of the UAE Athletics Federation following his success in the elections of the Executive Office of International Athletics Federation for the second time in a row; Nasser Al Tamimi, secretary general of the Judo, Wrestling, and Kick Boxing Federation for being voted as the treasurer of the International Judo Federation for the third time running; Duaij Raeesi, vice president of the Taekwondo and Karate Federation who has been elected as the first vice-president of the Asian Karate Federation for the second term in a row.
Al Dosari said: "The successes made by Emiratis in the elections of international sports federations reflect the great confidence reposed by those high-level institutions. Assuming such top administrative positions at the continental and international level is a source of pride to all of us."
