Welliton Soares has vowed that he will have his scoring boots firmly on as he attempts to return his new club Al Wasl to winning ways.
The Brazilian frontman made the switch to the Zabeel Stadium after two fruitful seasons with Sharjah, which culminated in 'The King' winning the Arabian Gulf League title.
And the 33-year-old hoped that his new partnership with brilliant playmakers Fabio de Lima and Ronaldo Mendes will translate into silverware for 'The Cheetahs.'
"I chose Al Wasl because it is a great club with a rich history and a broad grassroots base," Soares said, after being officially unveiled by the club.
"I will do my best to be in the line-up and I will help my colleagues to lead Al Wasl to the very top. My ambition with Al Wasl is to score as many goals as I can and help the club win titles," he added.
Soares, who will don the No.11 jersey, made 45 appearances for Sharjah whom he joined in 2017, on a two-year contract. He scored 27 goals and had 10 assists during his time with 'The King.'
Soares spent seven seasons with Spartak Moscow during which he had loan spells with Brazilian sides Gremio, Sao Paulo and Spanish club Celta Vigo. Prior to joining Sharjah, Soares played one season with Turkish club Kayserispor.
It has been 12 years since Al Wasl last won the Arabian Gulf League with the last of their seven titles coming in 2007. They finished runners-up in 2017 under Argentine manager Rodolfo Arruabarrena, who has since moved to Shabab Al Ahli.
'The Cheetahs,' who are now coached by former Al Wahda manager Laurentiu Reghecampf, finished a lowly ninth in the League last season.
