Srishti powers Chettinad past Gems Academy

Chettinad School-Chennai, former CBSE national champions, trounced Gems Modern Academy Dubai 44-9 to begin their campaign in fine fashion on the second day of the Sundeep Batavia Memorial International Inter School Basketball tournament for girls at the Delhi Private School (DPS)-Sharjah's annual multi-discipline sports festival.
The Chennai girls started off superbly with a lead of 15 points each of the first two quarters (30-0). Indian under 16 international Srishti Suren, daughter of former Indian ace G Suren, scored 11 points for the Chennai institution and was assisted by Varsha (9), Amrusha (8), Pon Soundarya (8) and Bailey Prakash (6). Bonifilia Periera scored 8 points for Gems Modern.
In a closely fought match in the girls section, DPS-Dubai defeated Our Own English High-Sharjah 43-37. Priyanka Bhasker (17) and Meher Majeed (18) came up with some effective counter attacks for DPS-Dubai while Arthi Vinod scored 22 points for the losers.St. Mary's Dubai girls trounced Winchester Dubai 29-5 as Rose Jose and Anishka George scored seven points each to spur the winners.
In boys action, hosts DPS-Sharjah outplayed NIMS-Dubai 39-24 with captain Harjot Singh (16) and Akshay Suresh (14) scoring the bulk of the points for DPS.St Mary's-Dubai defeated Sharjah Indian School 34- 27 as Kyle (14), Jose (9) and Joshua (5) hit peak form.
