Cricket never seems to have a shortage of backers and well wishers in this part of the world. Now, youngsters at Kricket's Spero Academy, Dubai will have the opportunity to showcase their talent in tournaments in India as part of a new partnership with the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA).
Kerala, though minnows in Indian cricket, is looking up these days especially after setting up an exclusive academy cum stadium complex at a venue 2,000 feet above sea level in picturesque Wayanad, in the north.
Kricket's Spero Academy was formally launched in Dubai by the Board of Control for Cricket in India vice president and head of KCA, TC Mathew; and head coach P Balachandran. They have planned out a way to see the budding cricketers in the UAE to test themselves against some of Kerala's best young talent on a regular basis, with the first visit in December.
"We have held talks with the Kerala Cricket Association and one visit is planned for as early as December this year," said CTK Mashood, director, Kricket's Spero and a former first class cricketer himself.
"We feel it's very important for the stars of tomorrow to gain as much exposure on international soil and we are very grateful that the KCA is involved and giving an opportunity for children. With the guidance and support of the KCA, it gives the children an opportunity to improve their skills and maybe play for their state in the future."
Mashood knows how difficult it is for youngsters to shine given the rising number of talented players in India. Ultimately, his aim is for his cricket academy to get a feel of what to expect in the future from a young age. "In all of India, not just Kerala, the competition level of cricket is very tough," he said.
