Waqas Ahmed and Saima Waqas overcame a strong challenge from Jaseel P. Ismail and Agna Anto before scoring a 21-15, 15-21, 21-15 victory on Wednesday to secure their place in the final of masters mix doubles at the India Club UAE Open badminton tournament being held here.
In the semifinals of masters mixed doubles 40 and above, Srikant Bakshi and Amritha Duffield survived a scare from Mohammad Moeen Ahmed and Vivien Silva for a 19-21, 21-16, 21-14 win.
In the men's doubles semifinals, Diju V. and Nandagopal Kadambi had it easy against Jaffer Sayed Ibrahim and Ketan Chahal for a 21-14, 21-17 win while Mohammed Munawar and Sunjith Subramanian too scored a two-set victory and beat Dea Adirangga and Endi Madullah Rojak 21-17, 22-20.
In the masters doubles 40 and above semifinals, James Varghese and Mohammad Moeen Ahmed trounced Fahyani Rianto and Sajayan Balan 24-22, 21-19 to set up a title clash against George Thomas and Jaseel P. Ismail who beat Shohaib Butt and Waqas Ahmed 14-21, 21-13, 21-18.
