Keeping vegans in mind, Google removed egg from its salad emoji that has a bowl filled with greens and two tomato slices.
Earlier, there was also a slice of boiled egg in the salad bowl which has now gone and Google UX Manager at Expression design team, Jennifer Daniel, tweeted about the change on Wednesday.
Daniel wrote on Twitter: "There's big talk about inclusion and diversity at Google so if you need any evidence of Google is making this priority may I direct your attention to the emoji- we've removed the egg in Android P beta 2, making this a more inclusive vegan salad." The tweet was accompanied by before and after image of the salad emoji, according to Mashable report.
Several Twitter users jumped in and replied to Daniel's tweet with hilarious and nasty comments.
The Google UX manager certainly had not anticipated the hullabaloo her tweet caused and clarified the decision to change the emoji in a later tweet. Daniel tweeted:
"Hello carnivores, vegans and everyone in between! Just want to clarify that the goal of salad emoji redesign was to create an image more faithful to unicode's description. 'A bowl of healthy salad, containing lettuce, tomato, and other salad items such as cucumber.' Bon appetite."
As soon as her tweet was posted, some Twitter users were quick to notice that the new emoji does not seem to contain any cucumbers!
