As always, Sony Mobile will be strutting its stuff at IFA 2016 in Berlin next month.
And of course, their biggest draw will be the newest iteration of its flagship smartphone.
Sony Mobile will be launching a new Xperia at the event, and keeping up with their X series, the name is widely expected to be either the XR or X2.
It is expected that the new phone will don a 1920 x 1080 display on a 5.1-inch screen (which would make it look taller), a USB-C port (a first for a Sony mobile), 32GB of storage, 3GB of RAM, a 12MP front camera and a 23MP dual-flash camera. It would also be upgradeable to the upcoming Android Nougat.
This would give credence to a post from OnLeaks, showing a rendering of the upcoming device:
The next Xperia is under the model number F8331, as confirmed by benchmarking site GFXBench, along with some other stuff:
Curiously, it's expected to be in the $400-$500 (Dh1,470-Dh1,850) range. It is also so far unclear whether the device's actual roll-out will be later this year or early 2017.
There was also chatter that Sony would slap on a pressure-sensitive display; as it stands, looks like that won't be happening.
Sony has been mum on details, so we'll just have to wait for IFA. Khaleej Times was there not so long ago, and they did put on quite a show.
But there's at least one soul on Earth who wanted to beat everyone to the draw: Last month, this dude was apparently trying to sell a "new model of the Xperia X Performance". Striking resemblance?
