Samsung showed off its latest smartphones on Wednesday at its Unpacked 2019 event at the Bill Graham Civic Center in San Francisco - and they kicked it off with quite a surprise.
The new models commemorate the 10th anniversary of Samsung's first smartphone, which has spawned endless spinoffs including the high-end, premium Note series.
Samsung unveiled the S10 and S10+, but it did not stop there at its traditional base and bigger model: it revealed three more devices - the budget-friendly S10e and the S10 5G, making the company the first in the smartphone industry to show off an actual 5G-ready device.
And what stole the show: the highly-anticipated smartphone with a foldable screen, the Galaxy Fold. Scroll through for blow-by-blow updates.
If you really can't wait for all the action, check out this video showing our up-close-and-personal encounter with the S10, S10+ and S10e at an exclusive sneak peek for select media outlets here:
We're ready to go here; about half-an-hour before Unpacked 2019 starts. Bill Graham Civic Center filling up quickly:
Here's our live-stream of the event at a rather comfy place high up there:
HERE WE GO. And what a way to spark things off: the hotly-anticipated Galaxy Fold, a smartphone-tablet hybrid that has been in the rumour mill for several years. It has a 4.6-inch screen when closed, but once opened, that's up at a whopping 7.3 inches:
However, you'll definitely pay for it: it's at an eye-watering $1,980. That's about Dh7,300, and we're quite sure it may be a bit higher here in the UAE:
And here are the (supposed) main stars of the event: the Galaxy S10 and S10+. And Samsung mobile chief D.J. Koh has a pretty clear signal to send out:
We have a lot to talk about, as usual. The S10 devices are once again power-packed:
And what's a smartphone today without a really powerful camera? Samsung touts its improved camera system:
On the budget-friendlier Galaxy S10e, the cameras are down to a dual-lens system, composed of a 12MP wide-angle lens and 16MP ultra-wide-angle lens. The front camera remains at 10MP.
Meanwhile, here are more improvements on those snappers:
And have ever had a problem with storage and RAM? Well, maybe you won't need more after you see this:
And more power to us users: the S10e, S10 and S10+ have batteries of 3100mAh, 3400mAh and 4100mAh, respectively. What's more important? It has reverse wireless charging, able to power up to devices at the same time (the second one via a USB-C cable):
Of course, you'd want to know the prices: at Samsung's UAE website, it's already ready for pre-order. For the S10e and S10, only the 128GB version is available here. As far as the S10+ is concerned, you get all 128/512GB/1TB options, but the 1TB variant is only on the ceramic colours:
And remember that reverse wireless charging feature? Try it out on Samsung's new wireless headset, the Samsung Buds - can be charged wirelessly:
No, we're not done with wearables. Here are some more additions Samsung's line-up, with, of course, fitness in mind:
And a new tablet too. There's a lot to save up for:
And ladies and gentlemen, Samsung is ready for the need for speed ahead with the Galaxy S10 5G. Now this one's a whopper:
If you think those specs on the S10 and S10+ were already nuts, why not find out what 5G version has to offer:
And I guess that's it. Samsung leaves ends Unpacked 2019 with a cute video that'll make you sing:
Loved that what will be will be, the future's not ours to see part.
Thanks for bearing with us. Next up: a review of the S10, which we hope we get soon.
