Australia beat UK 2-1 while the team from Philippines had an easier time as they blanked USA 3-0.
In the first match of the Australia-UK tie, Troy Gillham of Australia had to play at his very best to overcome the challenges of UK’s Andrew Howe. Eventually, the Aussie won the pulsating encounter in three sets 6-4 4-6 10-8.
Troy put the Australians ahead with his fine victory, but Bart Kendall levelled the scores for UK with a thrilling three-set victory over Gregory Howe of Australia. Kendall held his nerve to take the match 4-6 6-2 10-4.
In the deciding doubles encounter, it was the Australian due of Troy and Gregory who had the last laugh. They beat UK’s Andrew and Bart in straight sets 6-4 6-2.
In the tie between Philippines and USA, the Asians simply had an easy time as they won all of their matches. In the first match, Raul Lucas defeated David Simpson 6-0 6-2, while Ilak Tabura beat Brij Menon 6-0, 6-3 in the second match.
In the doubles, Ilak and Rpgelio Lee beat Simpson and Mathew Tooms 6-2 6-0.
