The eighth-seeded Dane cruised through to the last four with a comprehensive 6-1, 6-2 win and will now meet American wildcard Venus Williams for a place in Saturday night’s final.
Wozniacki broke every one of her Romanian opponent’s three services game and lost only one of her own to clinch the first set convincingly. Cirstea’s service was more reliable in the second set, holding two games from four, but Wozniacki didn’t drop any of her four games and she closed it out for the loss of only three games overall.
“That was good and really pleasing,” Wozniacki said. “I always know that Sorana can be a tricky important. “It was important for me not to let her back in the game and I felt like I served well, put the pressure on her and played the way I wanted to today. I decided what I needed to do out there and everything was going my way.
“I just want to play tomorrow (Friday) and do well. I’m not really thinking about the final yet. I will have a tough one tomorrow to get through.” Cirstea was gracious in defeat, admitting that Wozniacki had produced possibly her best tennis of their seven meetings to date to win through on Centre Court.
“All credit to Caroline. She played great today. I think she played one of the best matches I have ever played against her,” the world number 27 conceded.
“She was very solid and quite aggressive from the start. I didn’t really get a chance to get fully into the match. I was missing a lot today. I was quite slow as well. “So, of course, it didn’t go as I had hoped, but it’s a learning process and – as we say – ‘Sometimes you win, sometimes you learn.’
