Three Indians died instantly and a UAE national received serious injuries in a collision between a 4WD and a car at Seeh Kabdah in Ras Al Khaimah around 1.30am on Wednesday.

The deceased were Abdul Basheer, 40, Shameer Ismail, 24, and Hashim Abdul Rahman, 21 — all from Karunagappally near Kollam in Kerala.

The injured Emirati is battling for life in the ICU of Saqr Hospital. Major Marwan Jakka, Director of Public Relations of the RAK Police, told Khaleej Times that the accident happened when the four-wheel drive driven by the 34-year-old Emirati drifted into the lane for traffic in the opposite direction and collided with the saloon car driven by Basheer.

In Oman, nine members of two families, including four children, from Mattannur in Kannur district and Kuttippuram in Malappuram district in north Kerala were killed when the Toyota car in which they were travelling from Salalah collided with a Hummer at Haima. Two Omani nationals in the Hummer were also reportedly killed.

The two families had gone to Salalah to celebrate Eid festival. The accident, which took place early in the morning, was noticed after many hours as it had occurred in a desert area.

The victims have been identified as Khalid Moulavi, 32, his wife Safnas, 27, and three children Anas, Hashim and Fatima; and Mustafa, his wife Ruqiya, daughter Muqshina and brother Anwar. While Khalid hailed from Mattannur, Mustafa belonged to Kuttippuram.

Thirty-two-year-old Mustafa is the son of Mammu Haji and Aisumma. Engaged in business in Oman, Mustafa was a madrasa teacher in Kerala before going to Oman and was involved in various social activities. His wife, 27, is the daughter of Khader and Aisha at Kooranmukku near Uliyil in Kannur district.

The bodies of Mustafa and another person have been kept in a mortuary at Haima while the bodies of others have been taken to Niswa Central Hospital. Reports said that the hospital at Haima did not have facilities to accommodate all the bodies.

The bodies of Mustafa, his wife and children may be buried in Oman as they are completely burnt and beyond recognition, a family member said. The other family from Kuttippuram was also related to Mustafa.

The third accident at Mandya on the Bangalore-Mysore highway claimed the lives of five Keralites, who came from Jeddah in Saudi Arabia, to celebrate Eid with their family members.

Abbas, 45, a native of Edakara in Malappuram, his wife Baby Shereeja, 33, son Yaadir, 17, brother Jafar, 27, and mother Ayisha, 62, lost their lives as the Innova car in which they were travelling in hit a tree. The incident occurred around 1am. One person was injured and has been shifted to a nearby hospital.

Three children of Abbas, Amal, Nayana and Akhil, and Jafar’s wife Asif have been hospitalised with injuries. The Bangalore police said that the accident occurred when the tyre of the car, which was running in high speed, burst.

The family, which was scheduled to return to Jeddah on Sunday, had gone to Mandya in connection with a land deal.
