As many as 95 fines have been issued against those who parked under metro viaducts in the last six months, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has disclosed. The authority conducted 2,839 inspections to keep a check on any violations relating to the railway right of way.
"About 126 cases of legal notices and fines were reported pursuant to the provisions of Order No. (5) for 2009 governing the Rail Operations in Dubai," explained Hussain Al Saffar, Director of Rail Right-Of-Way department, RTA.
"An inspection team was set up by the Rail Right-Of-Way department to carry out inspections round the clock of all works related to projects within the protected areas of the rail facilities," said Al Saffar.
Daily and periodic inspections are carried out along the routes of the Red and Green Lines of the Metro as well as the Dubai Tram in order to detect violations, if any, Al Saffar said.
He urged motorists not to park their vehicles in prohibited areas such as under the metro viaducts. Al Saffar also called on contractors and consultants to obtain NOCs for various rail works they undertake in order to safeguard the facilities and infrastructure of the rail network.
