All towing vehicles or recovery trucks in Abu Dhabi are supposed to have a rear safety bumper, a protection rubber at the rear edge and a reflector sticker, according to new traffic safety specifications.
The Abu Dhabi Police on Thursday said they have implemented the new specifications for towing vehicles, which includes structural and technical adjustment to provide maximum safety to road users and reduce serious accidents caused when cars hit the towing vehicles' sharp rear edges.
Brigadier Ali Khalfan Al Dhahiri, Director of Central Operations Department at Abu Dhabi Police, stressed the importance of the police department adopting the new standards, saying that it was intended to provide safe towing of vehicles and to reduce the risk of accidents.
He noted that the new standard is within the framework of Abu Dhabi Police's keenness to support innovation and development efforts in accordance to advanced practices to make the roads safer.
Lt. Col. Saif Salem Al Mazrouei, Director of the Licensing Department in Al Zafra region, said the structural modification of the towing vehicles include: the fitting of a safe rear bumper and a high-quality rubber protector at the vehicle's rear edge, a warning triangle, a reflective sticker, orange warning lights and a warning alarm.
According to Al Mazrouei, no new vehicle will be registered and licenses for old ones will not be renewed unless they have been fitted with the new safety specifications.
