Abu Dhabi motorists who have vehicle impoundment penalties can now park their cars at their places of choice rather than the impoundment yard and also use their vehicle for an additional fee, the Abu Dhabi Police have said.
With the new 'smart vehicle impounding service' implemented in June, all impounded vehicles can be in the custody of vehicle owners instead of the yard. In an effort to make residents aware about the new service, 40 motorists in Al Dhafra area were recently taught on how to benefit from the new smart vehicle impounding service if their car has been booked.
Vehicles can be impounded for weeks or months under the traffic law if a driver commits offenses such as excessive speeding, jumping the red signal or illegal engine modification and others. Errant motorists can now get away without impounding their vehicles by having a smart booking device installed on their cars after paying the relevant fines specified by the traffic laws and Dh15 for each day of the impounding period.
The initiative aimed at providing convenience to drivers by keeping their vehicles required for impounding in their custody during the impounding period, said the police.
He said the documents required include the owner's car registration licence and the Emirates ID. "The motorist must pay all the fines for the offences he was booked for and the Dh15 service fees for each day of the impounding period," said Al Zuwaidi.
He added that after the completion of this process, the owner of the vehicle is required to take it to the specified location and park it before 12am that very day. After the end of the impounding period, the driver can take back the smart booking device to one of the service centres and then start using the car.
Police has urged drivers to abide by traffic rules and regulations so as to avoid facing hefty fines and cars being impounded.
