Abu Dhabi Police has announced a full closure of tunnel in the Al Ain City until Friday for emergency maintenance work.
According to a statement issued on social media on Wednesday, the tunnel on Khalid bin Sultan Street in Al Ain City will be fully closed from February 21 (Wednesday) from 6:00am to 6: 00am. On Thursday and Friday the closure will start from 9:00pm to 9:00am.
Police has urged motorists to exercise caution and avoid speeding.
Meanwhile, heavy traffic has been reported on the Abu Dhabi roads today morning, with several accidents causing congestion.
The Abu Dhabi Department of Municipal Affairs and Transport took to Twitter at 8.09am to report an accident Al Khaleej Al Arabi Street before Shakhbout bin Sultan Street inbound. The incident caused heavy delays and snarls, which was cleared at 8.23am.
An accident on E20 after Khalifa City Bridge - IB. Three right lanes have been blocked so look for alternative routes.
An accident on Sheikh Zayed Street at Mangroove underpass inbound. Left lane has been blocked so look for alternative routes.
An accident also was reported on Zayed the first Street at Rashid bin Saeed Street towards Al Khalidiyah, centre. Centre lane has been blocked.
In Dubai, motorists are facing huge tailbacks in every direction this morning. Huge tailbacks were observe on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road from the National Paints roundabout in Sharjah to Dubai. Slow-moving traffic was observed on Sheikh Zayed Road's E11 - from Al Nahda street towards Dubai.
Abu Dhabi Tour road closure
Travelers and residents have been urged to plan ahead due to road closures for Abu Dhabi Tour. On Thursday, Stage 2 will be on Yas Island.
Areas including Reem Island, Al Rahba (12.05pm and 12.45 pm); Al Samha, Khalifa Port, Al Taweelah, Al Sader, Al Bahia (2 pm) and thereafter returning to Yas Island will all shut for a brief period. This also means the streets will be briefly closed during the course of the event.
Friday will be a race covering the city. The Nation Towers Stage will see riders start from Corniche (closed from 12:45pm) to Al Bateen Street (1:10 pm); Al Khaleej Al Arabi, Adnec onto Mussafah bridge (1:30pm); exit to Al Wathba (2:05 pm); Baniyas City (2.30 pm); Yas Island (3:20 pm); Saadiyat Island, Louvre Abu Dhabi interchange and enter Corniche (3:50 pm).
Saturday will be Stage 4 of the race at Al Maryah Island. The 12.6-km race will be covering a stretch of Zayed the First Street, Gate Towers and back through the same route from 12pm to 4 pm.
The grand finale will be the Al Ain-Jebel Hafeet Stage. The race starts at 11:45 am from Al Ain (11:15 am closed) to Sweihan, UAE University, Abu Dhabi-Al Ain truck road to Jebel Hafeet peak by 4 pm.
The timings may vary but all sections will see only a brief closure in order for first to last rider to pass.
