Sharjah residents have been advised to avoid leaving Dubai during the rush hours between 4pm to 6.30pm, during Ramadan. As the traffic peaks between these times, RTA has asked motorists to stay away from congested routes as far as possible.
In the wake of rising complaints from road users on taking around two hours to reach their destination since the holy month commenced, Maitha Bin Adai, CEO, RTA Traffic and Roads Agency (TRA), said traffic jams towards Sharjah starts as early as 1pm during Ramadan.
Bin Adai added that there is no visible increase in the traffic from last year. "Ramadan traffic looks the same (every year), as private and public sectors have similar working hours, and leave around the same time," Bin Adai said.
"There is no specific route recommended for motorists, as the total trip time depends on the origin and destination of each individual," she added.
More accidents in Ramadan
Meanwhile, a recent report by Dubai Police's Command and Control room recorded 7,273 accidents in 15 days since the start of Ramadan, of which 26 were serious ones. The operations room also received 72,322 calls during the same period.
Lack of a safe distance between vehicles, speeding and reckless driving before Iftar have intensified accident frequency and severity. Officials have urged road users to drive carefully and ensure their path is clear before proceeding.
