Dubai Police’s General Department recorded 1,189 traffic violations, according to the department’s Acting Director Colonel Saif Muhair Al Mazroui.

The department had organised a controlled traffic movement plan during the New Year’s Eve, especially in the crowded areas where large numbers of revellers visited to witness the fireworks.

The movement plan included having traffic policemen and patrols deployed throughout Dubai, including the Shaikh Zayed Road, Boulevard Road around Burj Khalifa, Dubai Financial Road in front of The Dubai Mall and Al Khail Road, in addition to Al Riqqa, the Murraqabat area, the Corniche and Al Mamzar Road, amongst other busy areas.

The Dubai Police Deputy Commander-in-chief Major-General Khamis Mattar Al Mazina supervised the traffic movement around Burj Khalifa and said that he had instructed the traffic police to see to the smooth flow of traffic in all areas, and in the case of any traffic jams, divert traffic to alternative roads.

Colonel Al Mazroui also supervised organising the traffic movement in the same area. He said that the police had organised foot patrols to supervise the traffic movement near road crossings and ensuring that people would cross roads at designated areas to avoid any accidents.
