The number of riders who used taxi service in Dubai in the first quarter of 2017 has reached 44.88 million individuals, who were served in 25.79 million trips, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced on Thursday.
Abdullah Yousef Al Ali, CEO of RTA's Public Transport Agency, said: "Lifting 44,883,737 riders during the first quarter of this year is indicative of the huge demand for the service. It is a result of improvements we regularly introduce to taxis such as the offering of multiple means of fare payment (cash or credit cards), or training cab drivers to improve their attitudes and practices."
The RTA said from January to March this year, 25,795,251 trips were done by taxi franchise companies which have 10,038 vehicles.
The service breakdown is as follows: Dubai Taxi served 21.05 million riders in 12.98 million trips, Arabia Taxi lifted 4.41 million passengers in 2.53 million trips, Cars Taxi served 9.24 million riders in 5.31 million trips, Metro Taxi served 3.47 million riders in 1.99 million trips while National Taxi lifted 6.53 million riders in 3.75 million trips and City Taxi offered services to 172,121 riders in 98,920 trips.
