According to Dubai Police, eight people were killed and 20 were injured in 26 traffic accidents that took place in Dubai during the first nine days of Ramadan.
Colonel Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, Director of the General Department of Traffic of Dubai Police, said 40 cars were involved in the accidents and the injured included 10 drivers, four passengers and six pedestrians.
He said majority of the accidents (17) took place during the day, adding that two people were killed and three were injured as the vehicles they travelled overturned. Col. Al Mazroui added that two people were killed in car collisions, which injured other four. According to the statistics, 38.1 per cent of the total accidents were collisions. One person was killed when his vehicle crashed into a concrete barrier while another vehicle hit a signboard, resulting in the driver's death.
Col Al Mazroui urged the public to abide by traffic rules and to avoid speeding, dangerous overtaking and overtaking on road shoulders to avoid accidents.
During last Ramadan, 250 traffic accidents were recorded, of which only two were serious.
