With temperatures soaring, experts have asked drivers of the devastating effects extreme heat can have on their vehicles.
The rise in temperatures negatively affects all systems and parts in a vehicle - tyres, batteries, cabin filters, generators and air-conditioning systems.
Inder Preet Singh, AC and electrical technician at Honda, said that regular maintenance is the key to driving successfully in hot weather.
The extreme heat environment can push a vehicle past its limits and some drivers will find themselves stranded at the roadside in temperatures reaching 50°C if they don't take the necessary precautions.
"There are a number of simple measures drivers in the region can apply in order to avoid costly repairs," he said.
First of all, the car should be kept cool. "If it is not parked in the shade, then the dashboard should be covered. Else the entire interior of the car will be very hot," he explained.
Tyres also require special care in warmer weather as the increased temperatures place added stress on them. Driving on under-inflated tyres not only affects the handling and braking of a vehicle, it also can cause tyres to overheat and increase the likelihood of a blowout.
"People should check the condition of tyres with the dealers. Better still, filling them with nitrogen is helpful as it will keep the tyre cool and prevent it from bursting," he said.
Inder also said that tyre pressure should be kept low during this heat. He also said that people should regularly check the coolant in the engine as well as the AC gas so that the car does not heat up.
