Sharjah Transport officials, at a Press conference held at its new headquarters in Al Azra area on Monday morning, unveiled the new identity for its 4,800 cabs in a bid to give a simple and beautiful touch to its busy taxi fleet.
According to a senior official, the new identity has been created for the passengers’ convenience.
Director-General of Sharjah Transport Abdullah Al Zari said the recent statistics show that over 40 million people use Sharjah Transport taxis every year.
“It is the responsibility of each of the four franchise cab companies operating in Sharjah to change their identity as per the set rules and regulations.”
Explaining, he said all taxis will have the new identity by the end of June this year, in stages: “The various colour spaces on Sharjah cabs will be decreased into just one colour, white, whereas the top and side colours will be removed.”
Each company in the city (Sharjah, Emirates, Union and Citi) will choose simple side colours to reflect its own identity, “apart from the company logo on both sides”, he said, noting that the old identity of Sharjah Transport cabs, launched in 2004, was not flexible enough.
Al Zari said that a manual will be issued to ensure compliance with the set standards and conditions by all taxis, particularly during technical test. A sticker with the Call Centre’s toll-free number 600545455 will be available on all taxis for enquiries, reservation, suggestions, complaints, and missing reports.
The Sharjah Transport General Manager also added that his corporation, to encourage drivers’ good conduct, curb traffic violations and complaints, and boost customer satisfaction, has adopted an incentive scheme worth Dh100,000.
“As per the Shukran (Thanks) programme, the drivers of the four franchise companies operating in the city are rewarded financially for behaving well. They may also replace the black points imposed for traffic violations with white ones,” he said.
Sharjah Transport has honoured 760 drivers since 2010 in three annual forums for their honesty and outstanding performance. Staff quality controllers are closely monitoring all drivers of the corporation taxis and public buses.
