The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has unveiled new packages for daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual subscriptions to the unified fare Nol card, enabling users of the Dubai Metro, Dubai Tram and public buses to get discounts on fares of as much as 47 per cent.

The RTA has also announced broadening the category benefiting from the 50 per cent discount on fares to include not only students but beneficiaries of social security and seniors above 60 years, be they citizens or residents. According to the previous system, such a discount was restricted to citizens only. The new packages will be activated on November 11 in concurrence with the operation of the Dubai Tram.

Mattar Al Tayer, RTA Chairman of the Board and Executive Director, said that launching the new packages has been undertaken following elaborate field surveys to probe the views and preferences of mass transit users, particularly users of the Dubai Metro which has now exceeded five years of operation.

Based on the studies and surveys, and in response to the needs of individual and corporate users, a variety of packages have been designed to serve a wide spectrum of habitual users of public transport who constitute more than 90 per cent of public transport ridership and as such the move is poised to contribute to bringing happiness to people.

The new packages are viewed as the optimal option for those using mass transit modes regularly, and the one-year package is considered an ideal option for businesses and entities that provide transit services via public transport for their employees.
