ajman — Parking ticket machines have become operational in all main streets in Ajman, including the busy road in Al Karama, from Sunday. Besides, the parking fee will be Dh2 in the morning hours and Dh1 in the evening, instead of the flat rate of Dh2 throughout the day.
This has been done on the instructions of Shaikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Ajman Municipality and Planning Department, with the aim of minimising traffic jams on busy roads in the emirate.
Yahya Al Reyaysa, Director-General of the municipality, said that the project of paid parking services was launched in 2008 and has been completed on all main roads at a cost of Dh4.5 million to organise parking and prevent traffic chaos on important roads. “The project has been carried out in response to the demands of people who requested organised parking in residential areas to avoid exploitation of parking spaces by some people.”
The municipality would continue to instal parking ticket machines on all streets of the emirate. The project would be executed in phases. In the first phase which was completed, the machines were installed on Shaikh Humaid Street, Shaikh Rashid bin Humaid Road, and Masfoot, Al Ettihad and Khalifa streets and now Al Karama Street which is considered the busiest road in the city.
“Vehicles belonging to people with special needs and those of police and ambulances are exempted from parking fees. -afkarali@khaleejtimes.com
