Parking meters now accept new coins

Finding the right change to pay the parking fare should no longer be a problem with Dubai parking meters upgraded to accept the new Dh1 coin.

The Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) has completed updating all parking meters and configuring them to accept the new coins issued by the UAE Central Bank in 2012, which are different from the previously issued Dh1 coin, the agency said in a press release on Thursday.

RTA director of parking Adel Al Marzooki said the move was in the public interest to make life easier by enabling the use of the newly issued coins — besides ridding the public of any excuse to not pay parking fees and fall victim to parking tickets.

“The plan to upgrade 3,927 parking meters all over controlled parking zones in the Emirate has been set since the beginning of December, and priority was given to the most congested areas such as the Fish Market, Courts and the Gold Souk among other areas bustling with trading activities and processing of transactions in general.”
