The Department of Transport (DoT) on Monday announced the implementation of the “Post Collision Inspection Programme” in cooperation with Abu Dhabi Police.

According to the department, the programme is aimed at investigating vehicle crashes and identifying their root causes such as geometric design of roads, geometric curves, traffic signals and traffic density on the road, which in turn will allow the DoT to analyse the data and use the insight to improve future road developments adding to the emirate’s overall traffic safety.

General Director of the Main Roads Division for the DoT in Abu Dhabi Faisal Al Suwaidi said: “Our drive to developing and implementing world-class programmes at international standards stems from our commitment to produce a safe and efficient road network across the emirate of Abu Dhabi”. He noted that the department has already received significant data that will be incorporated into the Road Safety Master Plan currently run by the department, saying “we are proud to work alongside our partners to ensure the highest road safety measures across Abu Dhabi.”

The programme was developed by the Joint Safety and Traffic Solution Committee, which is made up of Abu Dhabi government entities, including DoT, police, Urban Planning Council and the Municipality of Abu Dhabi. Safety engineers across all entities are actively participating in the programme through sharing relevant material/data and developing counter measures to treat locations.
