While the Salik gates will be operational only from April 15, an RTA spokesperson speaking on a Sharjah radio station confirmed a study would be undertaken to review a change in Salik charges for motorists crossing the newly installed gates after midnight.
The study would take into account traffic on the Al Ittihad Road and also the movement of cars on Airport TunnelThe, once the Salik gates are operational.
According to sources, another study is also being planned to review the effectiveness of a daily Dh24 cap on maximum toll charged for any vehicle. The installation of new gates could possibly lead to an increase in the daily maximum limit.
Currently, motorists in Dubai are exempt from Salik charges only on the Maktoum Bridge after 10:00 pm as the alternative route on Floating bridge remains closed to motorists through the night.
