Abdullah Al Zari, Director-General of Sharjah Transport, said the Corporation, in March for instance, launched the family and women only cabs. “The service is aimed at giving more privacy to families and women.”
Sharjah Transport, to better interact with the public, posted its official web portal on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. “The Corporation also participated in the annual recruitment show to help national job seekers,” he said.
Also, Sharjah Transport, out of its commitment for corporate social responsibility, supported the special needs people with a 50-seat bus for the fourth year.
In April 2012, the Corporation honoured 100 of its excellent staff drivers during the third forum held at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry. “We do want to encourage and boost good performance and sustainability,” Al Zari said. “In May last year, we supported our cab fleet with 50 new taxis for the service of the Eastern and Central regions people, particularly in Khor Fakkan, Kalba, Diba Al Hisn,” he added.
Adding, Al Zari said the Corporation refurbished and coloured the women only cabs in purple in June 2012 to look better and be more convenient. “We also posted project ads of Sharjah Charity Society on 1,012 buses and taxis of ours during the holy month of Ramadan.”
In July, Sharjah Transport distributed 300 free meals on a daily basis at Al Jubail main bus station all along the Holy month of Ramadan. “The Corporation, in August last year, sponsored the ‘Rescue them’ campaign of the Sharjah Charity Society to help the famine and drought hit Somali people.”
In September 2012, a new family van cab equipped with a hydraulic lift joined service to more conveniently help special needs passengers get on and off the taxi.
In October, Sharjah Transport officially moved to its new headquarters at Al Azra area. “We have also completed 99 per cent of the new bus station and labour accommodation at the same area,” Al Zari said, adding that the Corporation built 125 out of new 540 bus stops, and plans to install 170 shades this year.
“The buses in service are up to international standards in terms of safety and convenience; they are all fully air-conditioned, with TV screens and separate sections for families, ladies and special needs commuters,” he said.
