The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Sharjah on Thursday unveiled the first stage of a mega project for building internal roads at the Muweileh district.
Eng Yusuf Al Shehi, Chairman, RTA Sharjah, said the scheme worth Dh100 million is aimed at developing the infrastructure of the emirate in general, and ease traffic flow.
“The contracting company assigned for the project shall start construction in August 2015.”
The first stage of the project covers three main areas, he added. “These are Al Qaraen 1-5, Al Nouf, and Hawshi.”
Al Shehi said the project involves the construction of 43km-long internal roads of two lanes each. “Each road shall be 7.3m wide, with two gravel side roads 2.5m wide .”
These are apart from other necessary civil works, including the installation of lamp posts, signboards, power cables, and water supplies, he said. “The project, in line with the directives of His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, is closely followed by Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah.”
Al Shehi said the roads would ease access to the public facilities there, including mosques, schools, parks, and alike. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Sharjah on Sunday announced another mega project for developing the infrastructure of Musalla area at Sharjah downtown.
Eng Sulaiman Abdul Rahman Al Hajiri, Director of RTA Sharjah for Roads Affairs, said the scheme is worth some Dh10 million. “The Fadel bin Abbas road connecting the Buriada bin Khasib road and Al Zahra road shall be rebuilt as part of the project.”
