Of these, 106 retail outlets will be in the Red Line stations, while the remaining 68 will be in the Green Line stations.

These outlets will sell books, stationary, gifts and other items. There are also plans to open ladies’ beauty parlours, banks as well as electronics games’ outlets on the metro stations. According to the RTA, retailers on the station would attract more metro users and therefore more investments, making it a hub of activity.

The RTA recently held an open house for tenants of the Dubai Metro outlets to elicit their views and positive suggestions to bring further improvements on the system. The meeting was held at the RTA head office in the presence of Abdullah Al Madani, CEO of Corporate Technical Support Services Sector; Saeed Al Murri, Director of Contracts & Procurement; and Ramadan Abdullah, Director of Rail Operation, Abdullah Yousef Al Ali, Director of Commercial and Investment, and other RTA officials.

Al Madani reiterated RTA’s focus to boost bilateral relations and foster joint cooperation with customers in different sectors. During the meeting, a visual presentation showcased the high profile and pioneering achievements of the RTA over the past years.

Such achievements highlighted the phenomenal expansion of the mass transit systems, particularly the metro, where the ridership during the first half of this year saw a massive increase as compared to the previous two years. The number of commuters in both the Red and Green Lines from January to June 2012 rocketed to 8,840,651.

The meeting discussed the need for campaigns to urge public to avoid offences and fines and to create awareness as to what food items can be taken on board the trains.

A team of the RTA Commercial Affairs Committee will study the suggestions from the participants in order to come up with the best solutions, opening up a specific communication channel with the investors .
